Steve Mitchell has 24 years of domestic and international finance experience. He has worked extensively in the private sector for major U.S. financial and public accounting institutions, including U.S. Bank, Zions Bank and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
He has served as chairman of XacBank, one of Asia's largest and most successful commercial microfinance organizations, and been an advisor on microfinance matters around the world. Mitchell has been a presenter in various conferences and forums on accounting topics. Mitchell sits on the boards of various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and is an Investment Committee member of Microvest, LLC, an international microfinance investment fund.
At age 19, Mitchell moved to the Samoan Islands and lived there for several years as a missionary for his church. It was there that he observed severe poverty firsthand and cultivated a strong desire for its eradication.
At Mercy Corps, Mitchell oversees the International Finance, Accounting, Human Resource, IT, Regulatory Compliance, Internal Audit, Administration and Legal functions of the agency. He received his MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of California at Irvine and his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Treasury Professional. |
