Steve Kersh is a native Texan who was born in Winnsboro, but grew up living in Sherman and Clifton. He graduated from Texas A&M where he met his wife Kristy, who is from Albany, TX. Steve and Kristy have two children, Carson, who was born on April 20, 2004, and Caleb, who was born on April 2, 2007. Steve’s house is very rarely quiet with 2 boys and his 2 miniature dachshunds, "Doppler" and "Radar".
Steve has been a television meteorologist since 1990 and has worked at KCEN and KWTX-TV in Waco as a weekend meteorologist and KTXS-TV in Abilene as their chief meteorologist before coming to KVII in 1997 as a weekend meteorologist. In April of 1998, Steve was promoted to Chief Meteorologist at KVII.
Steve is most proud of Storm Search 7’s SchoolNet, which he helped create in 1998 with 45 weather stations installed throughout the viewing area. Now, SchoolNet has grown to over 80 stations and continues to grow each month. He believes that SchoolNet is a "win-win-win" situation for students, teachers and viewers of Channel 7 in that the students get a "hands-on" learning tool whereby they can learn meteorology, geography, simple math skills and earth science. The teachers have a way to teach these skills to their students in an exciting way and also have a way to meet certain state of Texas teaching criteria for their classes. Viewers of Storm Search 7 get to see their town's weather data LIVE, like never before!
Steve has earned the Seal of Approval for his weathercasts from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Steve is also on a "Review Board" of meteorologists who examine tapes from meteorologists around the country who want to obtain the National Weather Association's Seal of Approval for their weathercasts. |
