Steve R. Burford, a partner with Spain & Gillon, concentrates in corporate litigation, representing insurers, manufacturers, commercial freight companies and other businesses. Mr. Burford specializes in all aspects of insurance-related law, including representation of insureds as well as insurers in first-party actions, particularly fraud, punitive damages, personal injury, products liability actions and employment-related actions. Mr. Burford also has extensive experience in providing coverage-related services, including policy coverage analysis, and representing insurers in declaratory judgment-related actions. As part of his corporate litigation practice, Mr. Burford has become well experienced in defending insurers, manufacturers and other businesses in class action litigation. Mr. Burford has been in practice since 1990, having served as a clerk to the chief justice of Alabama for 1990-1991. He is admitted to all federal courts in Alabama and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Burford was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1990. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 1987 and received his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1990. Mr. Burford served as the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy and is the author of The Present Trend Toward A Good Faith Exception to the Employment at Will Doctrine, 13 Am. J. Trial Advoc. 715 (1989).
