Stephen Wu is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. He is a member of the Firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice Group, where his practice is focused on antitrust litigation and defending mergers and acquisitions before the federal antitrust agencies.
Stephen has litigated matters involving federal and state antitrust claims in the federal courts as well as represented clients as parties and third parties in domestic and transnational mergers and acquisitions. Stephen’s practice also includes counseling clients before transactions to assess their antitrust risks and while they are pending to minimize compliance issues, consulting on matters relating to trade associations and standards setting, and advising on conformity with consumer protection laws.
Prior to joining the firm, Stephen was an attorney for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where he participated in all aspects of government investigations of mergers and acquisitions, including leading an investigation of a multi-billion dollar transaction and negotiating consent orders resolving the government’s competition concerns. At the FTC, he received an Award for Meritorious Service in 2000 and its Stephen Nye Award, the FTC’s highest award given to a junior attorney, in 2001.
Stephen’s antitrust experience with clients and at the FTC spans a variety of industries including: aerospace, biotechnology, distilled spirits, food, health care, medical devices, natural gas, petroleum, retail and telecommunications.
Stephen has also worked for the Citizens Utility Board in Chicago, Illinois, representing utility consumers. While there, Stephen participated in administrative litigation before the Illinois Commerce Commission that resulted in a settlement totaling more than $100 million in consumer redress.
Stephen is admitted to practice in Illinois. He is also a member of the Antitrust Law Section of the American Bar Association.
