Stephen Engle earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he served as Books and Commentaries Editor for the Harvard Law Review. He brings to his recruiting practice not only a deep knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area legal market garnered over years of professional recruiting but also an understanding of associate life gained during five years as an attorney at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass in San Francisco. Stephen began his legal practice as a general civil litigation associate. He went to trial on an eminent domain dispute relating to the Moscone Convention Center expansion, represented an airplane leasing company and engaged in numerous general litigation matters. He subsequently moved to the firm's corporate department, where he counseled a major internet service provider, handled venture financings and negotiated commercial contracts for various small to mid-sized companies.
Stephen received a B.A. magna cum laude (Phi Beta Kappa) in mathematics from Middlebury College and an M.F.A. in theatre from the University of Southern California. He spent eight years as a professional actor (including a stint as an attorney on As the World Turns) before going to law school. He was born and raised in a small town outside Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Stephen leads Major, Lindsey & Africa's Western Region associate practice, which includes offices in San Diego, Los Angeles, Palo Alto, San Francisco and Seattle. He created a program to educate law students on selecting the most appropriate practice area that has been presented at seventeen of the top twenty law schools. He himself has spoken to students at Harvard, Stanford and Boalt Hall as well as participating on a panel of search professionals at the NALP conference. He specializes in placing associate-level attorneys at law firms and at companies. He has also worked with partners seeking law firm or in-house placement. |
