Dr. Stephen Boyd joined Mannatech in mid-1997 as a consultant. He currently serves as Medical Director and Administrator, Medical Research Department, with responsibility for the medical research program, liaison with health professionals and the product safety monitoring program. He completed his BS and PhD degrees in Chemistry at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Following completion of a post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in thermodynamics at the State University of New York. Dr. Boyd spent the next four years as a research chemist and head of analytical services at Dunlop Research Center in Canada. In 1970 he returned to college and, in 1974, graduated with an MD degree from the University of Toronto, followed by training in Family Practice.
Dr. Boyd has spent fifteen years in medical practice as a family physician, both in Canada and the US His interest in medicine and research resulted in his recruitment in Canada as Medical Director of Ortho Pharmaceuticals, a Johnson & Johnson Company. Since 1992, he has been involved in the research and development of naturally occurring compounds as therapeutics and nutritional supplements. During this time, he has extensively studied the biology and pharmacology of carbohydrates and glyconutrients. Dr. Boyd is currently a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Texas Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Wound Management. As a result of his research in wound healing and wound management, Dr. Boyd received Board Certification by the American Academy of Wound Management in 1998. In April 2001, at the general meeting in London, Dr. Boyd was honored by being elected a Fellow of The Royal Society of Medicine (FRSM). |
