Stephen T. Scherrer is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where his practice focuses on intellectual property protection, counseling, transactions and litigation. In the patent area, Stephen focuses his practice on the chemical, pharmaceutical, life sciences and biotechnology fields, and has experience in the mechanical, electrical and internet-related business method areas.
Stephen has experience managing patent portfolios that have both U.S. and foreign patents for several major companies and has counseled numerous clients on short and long-term patent strategies. In addition, he has drafted non-infringement and invalidity opinions for various patents relating to polymer chemistry, flexible film packaging, transactions cards, and consumable beverages products.
Stephen holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in environmental sciences with a focus on environmental chemistry. While in law school he was managing editor for the Federal Communications Law Journal .
Stephen is a member of the bar of the State of Illinois, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
