Steve has worked with health system providers, payers, suppliers/vendors, and health partners both in the U.S. and internationally. He has led engagements from strategy to implementation, and has worked with all of the leading healthcare information technology (IT) vendors. Steve has over 30 years of consulting experience, and has focused on improving IT resources and the delivery of performance improvement projects with hundreds of clients. Most recently, he has focused on "digital health" initiatives throughout local and regional environments.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron, Steve was a Principal at Wellspring Partners, now a Huron Consulting Group Practice. He led the Information Technology Performance Improvement practice and specialized in the development of information technology strategies for client health systems. The practice focused on performance improvement in the information technology organization, as well as maximizing the return on investment that a healthcare organization has in its IT assets. The practice was integrated with the firm's performance improvement practices, providing guidance to clients in the deployment of IT systems and resources.
Previously, Steve led the U.S. Healthcare Information Technology Consulting practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for three years, and co-founded and served as Managing Partner for a full service healthcare consulting firm, V4 Consulting. Steve also served 17 years with Ernst & Young as a Partner in national healthcare information technology consulting leadership capacities. Most notably, he led the Midwest Information Technology Consulting practice and was a member of the national leadership team for Ernst & Young Healthcare Consulting.
Representative examples of Steve's engagement experience include:
Led the financial and operational turnaround of various health systems in Northeast U.S., realizing over $15-$20 M in annual improvement at each health system over a 12 month period.
Led the development of the Digital Health Community service line at PwC that focuses on clinical transformation services to the healthcare organizations that make up integrated delivery systems serving entire patient populations. These consulting services included clinical performance improvement, information technology strategy and deployment, and program management.
Assisted client organizations in the development of strategic and tactical IT plans. Master plans were developed for healthcare organizations including hospitals, health maintenance organizations, clinics, and physician group practices. They addressed current state assessment/improvement, IT future state direction and architecture, application software requirements, management policies, development and implementation strategies, resource requirements, and organizational structures.
Directed system design, procurement, and implementation engagements for financial, clinical, and administrative systems for hospitals, managed care organizations, and physicians.
Led development of IT architectures to support the evolving integrated delivery systems using advanced technology solutions including the use of eBusiness/eHealth technologies.
