Stephen K. Shahida is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, and serves as the partner in charge of recruiting for the department's Washington D.C. office.
Stephen's practice is focused on complex patent disputes. He has successfully handled numerous cases before several district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Much of Stephen's litigation practice has involved divergent technologies such as integrated circuit designs, semiconductor processes, graphics accelerator chips, advanced medical devices, high modulus low shrinkage fibers, internet and e-mail services, massive storage devices, analog and digital circuit design, disk drives and various aspects of telephony. In addition to his district court and ITC experience, Stephen has successfully handles appeals before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, most recently on behalf of Defendant-Appellee in Boston Scientific v. Medtronic, a case in which the Federal Circuit affirmed the grant of a summary judgment also handled by Stephen at the trial court. Stephen is a regular contributor to McDermott Will & Emery's Intellectual Property Update newsletter.
Stephen holds a bachelors of science degree in electrical and computer engineering. While in law school he received the ABA-BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor Law.
Stephen is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and many U.S. District Courts.
