Stephen J. Benkovic, Ph.D., Evan Pugh Professor and Eberly Chair in Chemistry at Penn State University. Dr. Benkovic is engaged in a variety of projects to understand the mechanism of action of various key enzymes. With these insights, his goals are to design specific agents of potential therapeutic use and to define further the interplay of various factors operating in enzyme catalysis. His research can be divided into several areas: the study of enzymes involved in DNA replication; investigations of folate-requiring enzymes, particularly those used in de novo purine biosynthesis; the mechanism of action of enzymes used by antibiotic-resistant bacteria; and the construction of catalysts from biological materials.
Dr. Benkovic joined the Senomyx Scientific Advisory Board in August 2003. |
