C. Stephen Backstrom is Vice President Taxation for Comcast Corporation where he serves as the principal tax officer of the Company. Backstrom joined Comcast in 1981 where he formed the Company's Tax Department. Prior to that Backstrom was with the Philadelphia office of the accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche LLP) where he served in both Audit and Tax Departments. Prior to that Backstrom was an Officer in the US Army.
Backstrom is a member of the Board of Directors and past President of the Broadband Tax Institute (BTI). Backstrom serves on the Board of Directors for the Comcast Foundation and Comcast Capital Corporation. Backstrom is also a member the Tax Executives Institute (TEI) the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) Council of State Taxation (COST) and the Media Industry Tax Group. His outside activities have included the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Finance Committee for Medford United Methodist Church Medford New Jersey and the Greens Committee and Officer of the Men's Golf Association for Little Mill Country Club Marlton New Jersey.
Backstrom is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of that football powerhouse Drexel University.
Backstrom's speaking engagements on both federal and state matters have included presentations and/or participation in panels for BCFM (Broadcast Cable Financial Managers) National Cable Television Association (NCTA) Media Industry Tax Group Paul Kagan Seminars Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and others. |
