Steve Morris is chairman president and CEO of Arbitron Inc. He joined Arbitron as president in December 1992.
Steve came to Arbitron from VidCode Waltham MA where he was president and chief executive officer from 1990 to December 1992. VidCode was in the business of electronically monitoring verifying and reporting the broadcast of television commercials. He was recruited as president and moved the company from its start-up through a test marketing program in two cities before its sale.
In 1987 Steve cofounded Spectra Marketing Chicago IL a micromarketing firm. The company charter is to help packaged-goods manufacturers reach specific segments of their market through programs tailored to appeal to the individual characteristics of that customer segment. It was sold to VNU.
From 1983 to 1987 Steve was marketing manager then general manager and then president of the $1.6 billion Maxwell House division of General Foods Corporation White Plains NY.
From 1969 to 1983 Steve held various marketing management positions in the Beverage and Desserts divisions of General Foods.
In addition to serving on the Arbitron Board of Directors Steve serves on the boards of the John B. Stetson Company The Advertising Research Foundation the David Parsons Dance Company and the New York Theatre Workshop.
Steve holds a B.A. degree from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Steve lives in New York and works out of the New York office.
