Stefan counsels clients with respect to the acquisition, management, protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, and advises clients in connection with intellectual property litigation, licensing transactions, product development agreements and M&A transactions. He has represented clients in pharmaceutical and biotechnology patent litigations in the U.S. and in Europe.
In addition to his degrees, Stefan undertook postgraduate medical training in South Africa, Great Britain and the United States and obtained board certification in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology. Before taking up the practice of law, Stefan was an attending physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and an assistant professor of medicine at Cornell University Medical School.
Stefan is the author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters in the area of cancer research and has presented at many legal, medical and scientific meetings. He has been a scientific reviewer for a number of medical journals and is a co-inventor on pending patent applications.
Prior to joining Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, Stefan practiced in the New York office of a national intellectual property law firm. In addition, he spent several years as general counsel of a Nasdaq-traded biopharmaceutical company.
His legal, medical and business experience provides him with a unique appreciation of the needs of his clients, which have included small and large biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, investment banks and venture capital groups. |
