Mr. Garnett is a Shareholder in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Litigation Group. His diverse practice encompasses all aspects of commercial and real estate litigation. Mr. Garnett brings a wealth of experience to Brownstein’s litigation practice, including several high-profile cases that earned him major honors within the legal community. In June 2006, Mr. Garnett won one of the largest judgments in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida with a $39 million judgment in Kobarid Holdings S.A. et al. v. Reizen. The jury ordered a South Florida businessman to pay nearly $19 million in damages (including $5.9 million in punitive damages) to an Italian company that lost millions in an embezzlement scheme. Upon entering the judgment, the judge trebled the damages to just over $39 million. The judgment was ranked number 41 on the list of The Top 100 Jury Verdicts of 2006 by American Lawyer and Verdict Search. Mr. Garnett also served as lead counsel for the John Elway defendants in a leading commercial case, Nelson v. Elway, and for a primary defendant, ICC, in the Summitville CERCLA Litigation, United States and Colorado v. Friedland, et al. He represented Farallon Capital Management of San Francisco in litigation involving the creation of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Stockman’s Water v. Vaca Partners, and Congressman Mark Udall (D-CO) in Colorado's nationally watched Congressional redistricting case, Salazar v. Davidson. |
