Stan Bowman, 32, begins his sixth season with the Chicago Blackhawks and first as the Director of Hockey Operations. Prior to this he spent five seasons as the Special Assistant to the General Manager.
Bowman works closely with general manager Dale Tallon, attending to the day-to-day administration of the Blackhawks' hockey operations department. His primary responsibilities include all CBA-related matters such as contract negotiations, free agency, salary arbitration, player movement and player assignment. Bowman tracks the progress of the Blackhawks prospects by working closely with the staff of the Blackhawks minor league affiliate in Norfolk. He also assists with player evaluation, prospect development and professional and amateur scouting. Stan graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1995 with degrees in Finance and Computer Applications. He began his career in the business world as a consultant for Arthur Andersen and also worked for a smaller consulting firm where he helped streamline company's business operations through the application of technology. He brought this experience to the Blackhawks in his early years with the team, working extensively on financial budgets and developing programs to track player movement and player evaluation.
Stan was born in Montreal where his father, longtime NHL coach Scotty Bowman, was coaching at the time. He spent most of his childhood in Buffalo, NY.
