Since the Anchorage office opened in 1982, it has completed over 2,700 geotechnical investigations for most types of facilities including dams, tunnels, airfields, waterfront facilities, buildings, landslides, roads, and utilities. On many of these projects, we have followed through with reviews of construction plans and specifications, provided earthwork monitoring services, or provided "as needed" consulting services during construction. Our environmental team has provided services on over 3,000 environmental projects throughout the State that include hazardous waste management, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Underground and Aboveground Storage Tank Assessments, remediation, as well as several other project specific environmental tasks. The Anchorage office currently offers a full range of geotechnical and environmental engineering capabilities and has a soils laboratory for basic and advanced testing for most of the thawed soils typical of the southcentral and southeast Alaska areas. Here, we offer extensive experience and knowledge of Alaska soils through our evaluation of the major landslides and tidal damage that occurred following the 1964 Great Alaska Earthquake. In addition to evaluating all the landslides in Anchorage, we conducted stability and damage studies in Seward, Valdez, and Kodiak. Our Anchorage staff also work effectively with resource agencies and clients regarding wetland projects to assist in delineating wetlands, obtaining wetland development permits, and designing wetland mitigation. Our permit application documents evaluate alternatives, hydrology, water quality management, habitat avoidance, and mitigation measures to offset the loss of valuable wetlands. |
