Professor Kachani is a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research at Columbia University. He teaches courses in logistics, and pricing, corporate finance and industrial economics, to undergraduate, masters and Ph.D. students. During Columbia’s annual Commencement Ceremonies, Dr. Kachani was awarded the 2005 Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award for dedication to teaching and devotion to the mentoring of students, and the 2007 Kim Award for Faculty Involvement, an award that recognizes one faculty member who goes above and beyond the call of duty to foster student success. His research interests include dynamic pricing, transportation network management and supply chain management. His research draws upon a broad collection of methodologies including dynamical systems, most aspects of mathematical optimization, simulation, control theory, and game theory. Dr. Kachani is the current Chairman of the Financial Services Demand Optimization Council, a non-profit consortium of financial industry professionals, consultants, academics, and technology providers dedicated to advancing research, insights, and use of optimization science to improve the competitiveness of financial services companies. He is also the 2007 Chair of the Revenue Management & Pricing (RM&P) Section of INFORMS. The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) is the largest professional society in the world for the field of operations research (OR). Dr. Kachani is an editor of the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management and of the International Journal of Services Operations and Informatics. He is also an associate editor of the Networks and Spatial Economics Journal and of the Production and Operations Management Journal. Dr. Kachani has chaired the Revenue Management and Pricing Cluster of many international conferences, including the conferences of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS), the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) and INFORMS. He serves on Columbia University’s Senate the university’s governing body and sits on the Senate Budget Review Committee and the Senate Executive Committee. Prior to joining Columbia, Dr. Kachani served as senior consultant in the Boston office of McKinsey & Co. Dr. Kachani holds a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from MIT's Sloan School of Management, and a Diplome d'Ingenieur in Applied Mathematics from Ecole Centrale Paris. Dr. Kachani is a recipient of the Karl Taylor Compton Prize, the highest award presented by MIT to students in recognition of achievements in citizenship and devotion to the welfare of MIT. |
