Prior to joining the Raiders, Peete spent two seasons (1996-97) coaching running backs at UCLA, where he guided Skip Hicks to two consecutive 1,000-yard and 20-plus touchdown seasons. Peete began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 before coaching wide receivers (1989-90) and then running backs (1991-92) for the Panthers - where he tutored future New York Jets running back Curtis Martin.
