Simone Blakeney is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery UK LLP, based in its London office. She is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where her practice covers a broad range of IP issues, including trade marks, patents, domain names, breach of confidence, copyright, designs and licensing.
Simone advises on both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property. She has been involved in a number of IP litigations in the UK. Simone also has experience in commercial IP, media, e-commerce and IT matters.
Simone regularly contributes articles to a number of industry publications. Her most recent articles include: "The Data Retention Directive: Combating Terrorism or Invading Privacy", Computer and Telecommunications Law Review, July 2007; "ECJ fails to resolve repackaging question", Managing Intellectual Property, June 2007; "Adverse to Ad Words? Prior to joining the Firm Simone trained as a solicitor in the Sydney offices of a leading Australian law firm. She also has experience in European Community law, gained while working for a European law firm in Brussels.

Assisting in litigating a wide range of trade mark, passing off, patent, confidential information and jurisdictional disputes
Providing advice relating to the IP and IT aspects of various corporate and commercial transactions, including advice in respect of rights licensing and acquisition issues, and structuring and negotiating the exploitation of IP rights
Advising rights owners on the exploitation, maintenance and protection of brands and industrial property rights and on the protection of new ideas
Providing internet-related advice, including e-commerce, licensing, issues and domain name disputes
Providing advice on database rights and data privacy law, including advising data controllers and processors on data protection and information management issues
