Simon Orme is a seasoned executive and advisor to enterprises, governments and regulators in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region, with over 18 years of experience. He specialises in solving complex strategic, economic and financial problems, typically relating to regulatory, market and technology change, focusing especially on the energy and communications sectors. Applications include: strategy and business planning; governance and organisational design; major transactions; contract negotiation; pricing, regulatory reports and submissions; and assisting with the preparation of expert testimony.
Notable energy projects include: the establishment of a stand-alone energy retailing organisation in Western Australia, the creation of the NSW gas market company; harmonisation of network regulation across Australian jurisdictions; the setting of electricity transmission wheeling rates; and commercialisation of stranded gas reserves.
Notable communications and media projects include advising on: the economics of the music recording industry; digitalisation and the broadcasting sector; and the pricing of access to infrastructure for broadband wireless services.
Simon has previously managed LECG's Sydney and Auckland offices. Before joining LECG, Simon's consulting career included working for Andersen Australia's strategy, finance and economics group. He has worked at both the New South Wales and New Zealand Treasuries. Earlier, he worked for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and an assignment at the Ministry of Maori Affairs.
Simon holds a Master's degree in philosophy from the University of Canterbury and has tutored in politics. |
