Cornelius joined Conoco in 1980 and held several positions in the company’s natural gas and gas products unit, with assignments in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico, before being named manager of natural gas sales in 1989. In 1991, he was a member of the Project 2000 team, which oversaw a major restructuring of the company’s North America exploration and production organization. In 1992, Cornelius was named manager of business development for the upstream North America group. He moved to Calgary in 1994 as president and general manager of Conoco Canada Limited, then in 1997, was named president of Conoco affiliate Dubai Petroleum Company. In 1999, Cornelius returned to Houston as assistant treasurer and general manager with responsibility for mergers, acquisitions and structured finance in the treasury department. In 2001, he was named treasurer, then promoted to vice president and treasurer. Following the merger, Cornelius served as vice president of upstream business development until he was named president, Lower 48, Latin America & midstream in 2003. He became president, global gas in 2004, then president, exploration and production – Lower 48, in 2006.
A native of Iowa, Cornelius was born in 1954. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, and earned Master of Science degrees in Management from both Purdue and Stanford University. |
