Shirley Robinson Biography : |
Dr. Robinson is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychology, and Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology. She is a core member of the Civitan International Research Center (CIRC), and a Center Scientist at the Center for the Advancement of Youth Health. In 1991, she completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology/Adolescent Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, where she also received specialized training in a MCH-sponsored Interdisciplinary Training Program in Child Abuse and Neglect. At UAB, Dr. Robinson has been involved in clinical and research training activities, including the UAB Medical Psychology Coordinating Committee, UAB's APA-accredited Psychology Training Consortium (i.e., past coordinator of the child psychology internship, year-long supervisor, and rotation preceptor), and CIRC/Sparks Clinics (MCH LEND Program). She has provided psychological evaluations for children and youth with developmental disabilities, served as Co-Director of a Child and Adolescent Behavior Clinic, and as Director of Clinic COPE for vulnerable children and families. At CIRC, she later served as the Mental Health Coordinator of Comprehensive Child Development Program for families affected by substance abuse, and currently serves as the Mental Health Professional for the UAB Early Head Start Program. She also participates in community planning and team grant writing related to health care access, including use of applied technologies to improve collaboration and services for vulnerable populations. Dr. Robinson has received national recognition for her work in the area of child abuse and neglect and has also published and presented in the areas of child affect (depression and anxiety), coping, parenting, and a variety of pediatric psychology issues. Other broad interests include, juvenile justice, preventive services/positive youth development and children with special health care needs. |
