Sheng Xu received a BS (1990) in Geophysics from Peking University, an MS (1993) in geomagnetic and seismology from the Institute of Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a DEA (1998) in quantitative methods and modeling of sedimentary basins from Institut Français du Pétrole, and a PhD (2001) in Geophysics from the École des Mines de Paris. He started in the industry in 2001 and joined Veritas in 2003.
Sheng's interests are depth migration, velocity model estimation and seismic data processing, where he has proposed common subsurface angle true amplitude depth migration in complex media, efficient numerical strategy for multi-arrival Kirchhoff migration, and an efficient anti-leakage Fourier transform algorithm with application to seismic data regularization.
Sheng received the SEG 'Best Poster Award' in 2003 and is a member of the SEG and EAGE.
