Shelly Reitman is a co-managing partner and tax partner with Shepard Schwartz & Harris LLP. Mr. Reitman has been advising the firm’s business and high net worth clientele on a wide range of corporate, partnership and individual income tax planning strategies and issues. His work has included: Evaluating the tax impact of real estate acquisition and dispositions, including tax-free exchanges. Advising on estate and gift tax planning strategies to minimize or defer taxation. Evaluating the tax impact of business acquisition and sales. Assessing tax implications of non-qualified executive compensation plans and qualified employee benefit plans. Representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service in connection with tax audits, appellate hearings and ruling requests. As a co-managing partner, Mr. Reitman is responsible for oversight of the firm’s operations as well as recruiting and professional education of its professionals. He also oversees the firm’s client relations initiatives, including the production of periodic news updates for clients regarding significant tax cases, rulings and legislative changes. Mr. Reitman has taught courses for the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS), lectured at the annual ICPAS annual Income and Estate Tax Update Conference and has authored tax articles. As an active member of the ICPAS Tax Committee, Mr. Reitman assists other CPA’s in the areas of partnership taxation, Subchapter S corporations, and income tax questions relating to real estate holdings and transactions. Before joining Shepard Schwartz & Harris in 1971, Mr. Reitman worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a revenue agent, teacher in charge of training new revenue agents and an appeals officer with the Appellate Division.Publications ESOPs - A Valuable Tool in the Right Situation. |
