Shelley Bird brings more than 20 years of international experience in communications, marketing and strategy to her role as executive vice president of Global Communications at Cardinal Health. She is responsible for public relations, employee communications, global branding and Internet/intranet marketing communications.
Prior to joining Cardinal Health, Bird was chief communications officer at NCR Corporation based in the U.S. and vice president of marketing communications and public relations for Philips consumer communications based in the United States and France. She spent a decade working in Asia, holding a number of positions of increasing responsibility with public relations firm Hill and Knowlton in Hong Kong and later as deputy general manager for their Singapore office. Bird also held several regional management positions in marketing and communications with Motorola Electronics in the Asia Pacific region and as the owner of her own communications and brand consultancy. She began her career in Toronto, Canada with J. Walter Thompson, a global brand communications company. She also taught at the college level in retail management programs.
Bird holds a master's degree in communication management from the University of South Australia where she is currently a Ph.D. candidate in communications. She is a regular speaker on communications, change management and public relations measurement. Bird is an accredited business communicator through the International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) professional program. In 2001 and 2005, she was honored with communication leadership awards from the IABC and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) respectively. In 2004, she was named the Corporate PR Professional of the Year by PR News, a leading public relations news magazine. |
