Shelby Marshall has been designing and producing educational materials and experiences for a very (very!) long time. After starting out as a scientist (with a B.S. in Biology from Cornell), his love of education led him to earn a Master's degree in Museum Education. Shelby then brought his talent to several nature centers, where he ran school programs, public programs, and even a nature camp.
After several years as a museum educator, Shelby joined Houghton Mifflin Company, where he edited science textbooks. With a voracious appetite for new technologies for learning, he eventually was asked to manage product development in the newly created Instructional Technology department.
Shelby first came to know FableVision when he was at Houghton Mifflin and needed a creative, technically robust developer to design and build online math manipulatives and games for a massive, multi-year development effort. The collaboration was a huge success. He and FableVision were so delighted with one another that Shelby eventually left Houghton Mifflin and became an official FableVisionary.
Shelby combines the sensibilities of a progressive, innovative educator/instructional designer with the bullet-proof organizational skills of a seasoned project manager. He has produced countless software products, Web sites, animated films, and books for clients such as Scott Foresman, Cisco, PBS, Robert Leslie Publishing, Readio Network, and the National Archives. He connects deeply with the client's vision and translates that vision into a concrete product plan. Then, with a rare passion and dedication, he guides the FableVision team to make the vision a reality. |
