Shelby H. Carter, Jr. is Chairman of the Board of Pervasive Software. Since January 1986, Carter has served as a distinguished adjunct professor at the University of Texas Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration. He founded several successful high technology companies, including SynOptics, which merged with Wellfleet to become Bay Networks before being bought by Northern Telecom, and VitalSigns Software, which was acquired by International Network Services in 1998. He also was formerly corporate vice president of worldwide operations for Xerox Corporation. Carter currently serves as chairman of the board of a private company and as a venture partner of Austin Ventures, focusing on the firm's Software & Services investment area. He received a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was recently named a distinguished alumnus.
