Sharon Rowlands is president and chief executive officer for Thomson Financial, a strategic business unit of The Thomson Corporation. Since assuming her role in 2000, she has guided Thomson Financial through its transformation from a company of 45 disparate corporate entities to a global financial information and technology powerhouse. The company’s content, technology and services play a vital role in facilitating decision-making, deal flow, benchmarking and analysis for the world’s largest financial participants.
In achieving this, she has changed the financial technology and information industry by creating a new business service model for Wall Street firms. Prior to this role, Ms. Rowlands served as the company’s president and chief operating officer. Effective January 1, 2007 Ms. Rowlands will serve on the company’s Management Committee.
Previously, Ms. Rowlands was managing director of Thomson Financial Database Group in Europe. Before joining Thomson Financial in 1996, Ms. Rowlands ran the North American operation of FT Information, and was managing director of Extel Financial. She has worked in the financial information industry for more than 22 years.
Prior to her career in the financial industry, Ms. Rowlands worked for three years as a high school teacher and one year in trade publishing.
Ms. Rowlands holds a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree from Newcastle University and a post graduate degree in Education from London University. |
