Sean P. Flannery is chief investment officer for State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) in North America. He is responsible for all of SSgA's investment strategies around the world and for the management of the investment teams in the Americas along with the Advanced Research Center. He is a member of SSgA's executive management group and the asset-liability committee, the joint investment group of SSgA and State Street.
During Mr. Flannery's 10-year tenure he has served as SSgA's global director of fixed income and as the director of product engineering, with responsibilities encompassing all asset classes and institutional strategies. He created the State Street VGap, a pioneering new measure of stock market volatility. Prior to joining SSgA, Mr. Flannery was a senior portfolio manager with Scudder, Stevens and Clark, and previously managed indexed and quantitatively-driven fixed income strategies at PanAgora Asset Management.
Mr. Flannery received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from George Washington University. He is a frequent contributor to financial publications and a lecturer at the Wharton School and various other colleges. He serves as the chair of the Advocacy Group for the Asset Managers division of the Bond Market Association.
Mr. Flannery serves on the advisory board of trustees for Catholic Charities of Greater Boston and is the vice-chair for the New England Regional Board of Directors for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. He also serves as the chairman of the Ryan Flannery Memorial Fund, a fund which commemorates his son who died in a tragic car accident and which offers scholarships to individuals at Boston College High School and Scituate High School.
