Scott E. Oaksmith is controller for worldwide lodging franchisor Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH) where he oversees the company's financial operations including corporate reporting and accounting planning and analysis and payroll operations.
During his tenure at Choice Mr. Oaksmith has successfully upgraded the accounting corporate reporting processes as well as identified and strengthened internal controls to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
Mr. Oaksmith joined Choice Hotels in 2002 as director marketing and reservation finance. In this position he greatly improved the relationship between the finance department and the company's franchise association members. In addition in order to improve efficiencies and communication across departments he established a strong working relationship between the company's leaders of marketing and reservation activities and the finance department.
In 2003 Mr. Oaksmith was promoted to director finance and in 2004 was promoted to senior director and assistant controller. In this position he directed the finance organization's domestic and international accounting corporate planning and analysis and payroll functions. In addition he handled the company's Securities and Exchange Commission financial filings and maintained the organization's internal controls monthly closing process accounting policies and procedures.
Prior to joining Choice Hotels Mr. Oaksmith worked for American Express Tax & Business Services Inc. in Baltimore from 1994 to 2002. While at American Express he held various accounting positions of increasing responsibility including managing attestation and handling accounting tax and consulting work for small to large clients.
A certified public accountant Mr. Oaksmith earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Towson University in Maryland and his masters of business administration with a concentration in finance from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. |
