A building should reflect the personalities of the people for whom it is built, responding to the characteristics of its particular location rather than the style of the architect. Before entering the architectural field, Scott was a stockbroker in Manhattan; in the mid-1980’s, with his background in molecular genetics, he followed biotechnology companies. After moving to Richmond, Scott worked in construction, and, as a result of that experience, he went to graduate school in architecture. He then worked with several architects, including Peter Eisenman in New York. Scott was present at the inception of Johannas DesignGroup in 2000. There he has been engaged in a collaborative process, seeking to integrate rationality and meaning in cohesive, efficient designs. As a partner of the Design Group, Scott is detail oriented, innovative, and provocative in his application of research and creativity to fulfill the wishes and desires of his clients. He has directed planning and design on a variety of renovation and historic conversion projects, single-family residences, and various business and retail projects. While attending Virginia Tech, Scott was elected to the Tau Sigma Delta National Architecture Honor Society; he attended Harvard University for the Career Discovery Program; and he received his Artium Baccalaurei in Biology from Princeton University. Scott swims with a masters’ swim team, and enjoys playing tennis and golf with his friends, his wife, and two boys. |
