Scott M. Wheelwright, Ph.D., Vice President, Operations, founded Strategic Manufacturing Worlwide, and was previously Vice President of BioProcessing at Genitope Corporation, a cancer immunotherapy company in Redwood City, California. Prior employment held during his twenty years in industry includes positions at DURECT, Calydon, Scios, Chiron and Abbott Laboratories. His responsibilities have included numerous manufacturing and development projects related to cell culture, fermentation, protein purification and assay development; the cGMP manufacture of pharmaceuticals, biologicals, recombinant proteins and viruses for therapeutic, vaccine and diagnostic use; and quality assurance, quality control, environmental health and safety, project management and facilities operations. Dr. Wheelwright obtained his Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Utah. He performed post-doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics in Frankfurt, Germany. Dr. Wheelwright is the author of a book on protein purification and has published many papers on process design and manufacturing for biotechnology. |
