Scott Beattie is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Elizabeth Arden Inc., a global prestige beauty products company. Since the inception of the business in 1992, which was known as FFI Fragrances prior to the acquisition of the Elizabeth Arden business in 2001, Mr. Beattie has been involved in every element of Elizabeth Arden's expansion and development. Under his stewardship, the Company's sales have grown more than twenty-fold and the Company's brand portfolio has grown to include more than 100 brands.
Mr. Beattie's knack for identifying business opportunities and relentless focus on innovation and operational excellence have been instrumental in Elizabeth Arden's success. Some of these successes include acquiring the Elizabeth Arden business from Unilever in 2001 and then reinvigorating the Elizabeth Arden brand globally by signing Catherine Zeta-Jones as its spokesperson, growing Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds business to the extent that there were more units of White Diamonds sold in 2004 than any other prestige fragrance brand in the U.S., building the largest prestige fragrance business in the U.S. mass retail market, developing and launching the #1 fragrance brand of 2004, curious Britney Spears. Mr. Beattie also led the Company's efforts in partnering with Allergan, Inc., the specialty pharmaceutical company, to bring the breakthrough anti-aging treatment, PREVAGE® to the global skincare market in December 2005 The agreement creates the beauty industry's first true cosmeceutical partnership. Elizabeth Arden products are sold in over 80 countries worldwide, representing sales in excess of $2.0 billion.
Mr. Beattie has dedicated himself to building an organization that is entrepreneurial in spirit, utilizes a team-based approach, focusing on the needs of both its consumers and its retail partners and counts and treats its employees as its most valued resource. Prior to his involvement with Elizabeth Arden, Mr. Beattie was a managing director of the Company's financial sponsor, Bedford Capital Corporation. As a founding partner of Bedford Capital, he was on numerous boards of directors of both private and public companies, and was instrumental in creating private equity ventures for two Bedford funds in excess of 30% compounded annually. Prior to co-founding Bedford Capital in 1990, Mr. Beattie served as a Vice President in the Mergers and Acquisitions group of Merrill Lynch, Inc. and as a Manager of Accenture Consulting.
In addition to building the Elizabeth Arden business, Mr. Beattie has made the support of charitable endeavors fundamental to the Arden culture. To that end, Elizabeth Arden participates in many programs globally that support a wide-range of charities, including Look Good.. Feel Better, AmeriCares, Make a Wish Foundation and Childhelp USA. This October the company will support Breast Cancer Awareness month with an Unlock the Cure promotion where proceeds of each sale of Red Door Revealed Touch-on Pen benefit Cancer and Careers. Mr. Beattie is also actively involved and committed to education reform initiatives. This is evidenced by his participation for years in the Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning (PENCIL) program. PENCIL mobilizes private sector leaders to establish long term mentoring and support relationships with New York City public schools. This has led to a strong relationship between Elizabeth Arden and MS 142, the John Phillips Sousa Middle School in the Bronx. The school has affectionately taken on the nickname the Red Door School, after the company's iconic logo, and Mr. Beattie has acted as its visiting Principal on a number of occasions.
Mr. Beattie holds an MBA and a degree in Honors Business Administration from The Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Mr. Beattie currently serves on the board and executive committee of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA), and the board of directors of The Fragrance Foundation, Bedford Capital Corporation, Object Video, Inc. and the Ivey School of Business.
Mr. Beattie has received numerous awards of recognition, including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist (2003), CTFA honored executive (2005), WWD Beauty Biz Most Innovative Marketer of the Year (2006), and numerous awards of recognition on behalf of Elizabeth Arden, Inc. |
