Scott Chaplin joined Stanley Inc. in November 2005 as general counsel and corporate secretary. He previously held the position of vice president and general counsel for BAE Systems IT division where he provided primary oversight for all legal matters affecting the company including commercial and government contracts dispute resolution litigation management technology licensing labor and employment federal/international regulatory compliance intellectual property corporate investigations and ethics compliance.
Before DigitalNet was acquired by BAE Systems Scott served as the vice president and general counsel for the company where he managed legal issues pertaining to corporate and government contracts disputes and litigation technology licensing joint ventures and strategic alliances labor and employment export compliance intellectual property corporate investigations corporate governance ethics compliance mergers and acquisitions and employee training. He also played a major role in the company’s IPO and acquisition of User Technologies Associates Inc. as well as all matters related to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Scott provided oversight and management for DigitalNet’s legal industrial security contracts and export compliance departments. He held a similar position at Getronics Government Solutions as deputy general counsel and assistant secretary from 1999-2002 before it was acquired by DigitalNet.
Earlier in his career Scott was an associate attorney at several DC-based law firms including Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP Reed Smith LLP and Gavett & Datt PC. He also served as an adjunct professor of law at his alma mater American University at the Washington College of Law during 2000 and 2001. |
