As a member of the firm’s labor and employment department, Samantha currently provides advice to and litigation services to a broad range of clients, including the Santa Clara Valley Water District, East Bay Municipal Utility District, Union City, Daly City, and San Leandro. Samantha defends matters involving claims of discrimination and harassment, wage and hour violations, and wrongful discharge. She also advises clients on a range of employment matters, including employee disability and discipline issues. Samantha has conducted numerous training courses for public agency employees throughout the State of California on topics such as Disabilities in the Workplace and Preventing Sexual Harassment, focusing on compliance with the requirements of the Fair Employment and Housing Act. Her audiences are diverse in number and rank, ranging from eight to seventy-five people, and including police officers, firefighters, city management, and human resources personnel. Recently, she has trained employees in City of Milpitas, Union City, the City of Rancho Cordova, and the City of Tracy.Prior to joining Meyers Nave, Samantha was an associate at Moscone, Emblidge & Quadra, a civil litigation firm in San Francisco, where she represented clients in the public and private sectors in areas such as class actions, wage and hour claims, and civil rights claims. Having represented plaintiffs and defendants provides Samantha with a unique insider’s perspective when counseling clients about how to avoid or manage existing litigation. Currently, Samantha is involved in the litigation of several donning and doffing claims, defending police departments against FLSA claims for compensation for time spent donning and doffing uniforms and gear.Active in the community, Samantha provides pro bono legal services to La Cocina, a small business incubator located in San Francisco. While in law school, Samantha served as a mediator at the San Francisco Small Claims Court and a volunteer at the San Francisco Tenants Union. |
