Sam Simon - Chairman and CEO of Simon Holdings Headquartered in Taylor, Mich., Simon Holdings includes Atlas Oil Company, Fast Track Ventures and B&R Oil Company. Sam Simon started in the fuel business in 1976, while working at one of his father's 30 gas stations. In 1980, Sam Simon assumed management of all 30 stations and an ice company. Sam ran the businesses until 1985 when he purchased his first fuel truck using a $30,000 credit card cash advance. With this truck, Sam Simon provided wholesale delivery of gasoline and diesel fuel to his customers on a 24 hour basis. Thus, Atlas Oil Company was born. Today Atlas Oil Company is one of the largest wholesale distributors of gasoline in the Midwest, delivering more than 500 million gallons of fuel per year. Approximately 2 billion gallons are under long term contracts. Atlas Oil Company's customer base ranges from commercial and industrial fuel users to greater than 225 retail locations under the Marathon, Clark, Fast Track, and WoW! brand names. Atlas Oil Company also operates a pipeline terminal at its Taylor headquarters, and is now considered one of the premier entrepreneurial oil companies in the United States. In November 2000, Sam Simon started Fast Track Ventures, a real estate holding company that owns retail gasoline station properties. Fast Track Ventures resells or leases out many of the retail locations to independent dealers, and has various other real estate assets. Today, Fast Track Ventures owns more than 75 gas stations and office buildings in the Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio markets. In October 2002, Simon Holdings acquired B&R Oil, one of the largest Conoco Phillips jobbers in the country. B&R Oil supplies more than 70 retail locations with 110 million gallons of gasoline a year. Sam Simon was appointed to the National Petroleum Council by Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham. In 1999, he received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. A former board member of the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA), Sam remains active in the organization. |
