For as long as I can remember I've been a writer and insatiably curious. As a kid, my incessant "whys" would drive my dad crazy, especially when he didn't have all the answers. Now as an adult, I'm finding out the answers for myself as a TV reporter.
My passion for writing led me, at 13 years old, to being published in Newsweek, Reader's Digest, and then invited on the Oprah Winfrey Show. I was an over-achiever from a young age, but my curious nature caused me to face some pretty big challenges as an adolescent. I plan to one day write a book about these years, and, fortunately the story will have a happy ending.
I was born on O'ahu, where I attended Kahala Elementary, Kaimuki High School and Kapiolani Community College. I went on to the University of Maryland, where I earned two bachelors degrees: one in criminology and the other in broadcast journalism. My life-long desire to work in television news was reaffirmed after I completed several internships with local and national news outlets, and had a chance to report and anchor for my university's television and radio stations.
I genuinely believe television news reporting is a job that was meant for me. Maybe it's because I'm the daughter of a speechwriter and English teacher, or perhaps because I have a strong desire to contribute to the stream of life. Mostly I love this job because it provides me the opportunity to meet strangers everyday who not only become my friends, but also become yours, because I am privileged enough to share their stories with you.
