Russell Greig assumed the role of President, Pharmaceuticals International for GlaxoSmithKline in March 2003. He is a member of the Corporate Executive Team. Previously, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Worldwide Business Development for R&D.
Prior to the merger, his most recent role in SmithKline Beecham had been General Manager and Managing Director, Pharmaceuticals UK.
Russell joined the company in 1980 in the Discovery Unit of R&D in the US and held progressive positions of responsibility with R&D. In 1993, he was appointed Vice President and Director of Advanced Technologies in Genetics, with responsibility for integrating new technologies (particularly genomics) into R&D. He played a central role in managing SmithKline Beecham's scientific and commercial relationship with Human Genome Sciences and TIGR, and extending the company's network of genomic alliances to other pharmaceutical companies. He returned to the UK in 1996 when he was appointed Vice President and Director, European Market Development.
Russell, a Fulbright Scholar, holds a Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester, England.
