Dr. Howard has served as Maxygen's chief executive officer and a director since June 1998 and is one of the company's co-founders. Dr. Howard was elected president and chief operating officer in May 1997. Before joining Maxygen, Dr. Howard served as the president and scientific director of Affymax Research Institute, an institute employing combinatorial chemistry and high throughput target screening to discover drug leads, from August 1994 to June 1996. Prior to joining Affymax, Dr. Howard held various research positions at DNAX Research Institute and the National Institutes of Health, where he received tenure. Dr.Howard received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Melbourne University, Australia. In addition to numerous patents, Dr. Howard has over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals. |
