As the vice president of operations for the grocery products division at Hormel Foods Corporation, Russell C. Potter is responsible for the grocery products processing plants and co-packer operations.
Potter started with Hormel Foods in 1975 as an industrial engineer trainee in the Fort Dodge, Iowa plant. He was promoted to industrial engineer at Fort Dodge in 1976, and in 1977, became the night foreman of grocery products production. In 1978, he was moved to foreman of dry sausage and prosciutto. He was named night superintendent later that year. He became the superintendent of the grocery products division in 1979.
In 1983, Potter was named the manager of Hormel Foods operations at the Owatonna, Minn. plant. He moved to Austin, Minn. to be the product manufacturing manager of grocery products and specialty products in 1985; he became the plant manager at the Stockton, Calif. plant in 1987; and plant manager at the Beloit, Ill. plant in 1992. He was promoted to director of grocery products production in 1994 and was named to his current position in 2006.
A native of Dow City, Iowa, Potter received his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Northern Iowa.
He is currently the president of the Shelf-Stable Food Processor’s Association, formerly the National Meat Canner’s Association. He is chairman of the board for Fort Dodge Foods and also serves on the board for Valley Fresh, Inc. |
