Mr. Holland was named Chief Executive Officer of McLeodUSA in January 2006. With more than thirty years experience in the telecommunications, energy, and engineering/construction industries, Mr. Holland most recently served as co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Allegiance Telecom, Inc., a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Since its inception in 1997, Allegiance deployed networks in 36 major metropolitan areas across the USA providing integrated broadband communications services to small and medium-sized businesses. Allegiance's telecom services business was acquired by XO Communications in 2004.
Previously, Mr. Holland was President and one of several co-founders of MFS Communications Company, Inc., one of the first competitive local carriers with operations in 52 metropolitan areas in North America, Europe and Asia. Founded in January 1988, MFS was a pioneer in opening new markets to competition in the USA and several EU countries. MFS was acquired by WorldCom in late 1996.
Prior to working in the telecommunications industry, Mr. Holland spent 15 years in engineering, project management, development, and financing of steam and electric power generating facilities powered by coal, geothermal energy, biomass, and natural gas.
In January 1993, Mr. Holland was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. In November 1999, he was appointed by Governor George W. Bush to the Texas E-Government Task Force, which had the mission of putting many of the state services on the web as a convenience to citizens renewing auto registrations, driver's licenses, business licenses and numerous other functions. He also is a former chairman of ALTS, the trade industry association for facilities-based CLECs. He received a B.S. in engineering from the University of Texas and his M.S. in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Holland currently is Chairman of the board of directors of Masergy, a privately owned IP Network company offering broadband services to global corporate enterprise customers. |
