Ronald J. Doerfler, who has been senior vice president and chief financial officer of Hearst Corporation since February 1998, was elected a member of the Corporation's Board of Directors in August 2002. Doerfler has direct responsibility for all of the Corporation's finance and accounting activities.
Doerfler joined Hearst from ABC, Inc., where he was senior vice president and chief financial officer. He also served with Victor F. Ganzi, president and CEO of Hearst Corporation, and Raymond E. Joslin, senior vice president and group head of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, as a member of the board of ESPN, Inc., of which 20 percent is owned by Hearst and 80 percent by Disney/ABC, Inc.
He joined Capital Cities Communications in 1969, was appointed treasurer in 1977 and senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1980. He played a major role in Capital Cities’ acquisition of ABC, Inc. in 1986 and again in the 1996 Capital Cities/ABC merger with The Walt Disney Company. Doerfler was instrumental in numerous other transactions over the years.
In 1986, Doerfler was named one of America's Best Chief Financial Officers, an honor awarded to 50 chief financial officers by Institutional Investor magazine. He is a former chairman of the board of the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He sits on the Board of Trustees of Fairleigh Dickinson University and the Board of Directors of the Arts & Business Council.
Doerfler graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in accounting and became a CPA in 1967. He received an M.B.A., magna cum laude, from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1972. |
