Since joining the faculty of the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981, Dr. Ron Hutchins has rendered invaluable service to students, the professional community, and the campus at large. Dr. Hutchins has successfully developed instructional and research laboratory facilities, as well as graduate and undergraduate course curriculum utilizing those facilities. It was in the School of Information and Computer Science that Dr. Hutchins first conducted research he would later apply toward making the Georgia Tech computer network one of the foremost university networks in the nation. The FutureNet project, which provided upgraded facilities to Georgia Tech in support of the Olympic Village, is an example of this leveraging of opportunity to bring value to the campus, both operationally and in support of the academic mission. Dr. Hutchins was also the vision behind the Wireless Corridor project at Georgia Tech. This project envisioned a corridor across the GT campus which supported wireless networking from end to end. It is recognized nationally as a model for wireless networking on a university campus. |
