Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Senior Director of Public Policy Litigation and Law Roger Evans is the senior attorney responsible for PPFA's legal advocacy efforts in the public policy arena. He leads the PPFA Public Policy Litigation and Law Department, which provides strategic legal advice on legislation in Congress and state legislatures; regulatory issues at the national, state, and local levels; and other issues, such as judicial nominations. Mr. Evans and his staff conduct or assist with litigation in state and federal courts across the country, and have been lead or co-counsel in most of the major reproductive rights cases over the past 15 years.
Since joining PPFA in 1983, Mr. Evans has conducted and supervised litigation, on behalf of PPFA and Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country, affecting all areas of reproductive rights. He has been lead or co-counsel in many U.S. Supreme Court cases. These include Planned Parenthood v. Casey (in which the court most recently re-affirmed that the U.S. Constitution protects a woman's right to choose), Rust v. Sullivan (in which Planned Parenthood and others challenged a gag order on abortion counseling), and Webster v. Reproductive Health Services (in which Planned Parenthood and others challenged several restrictions on women's access to abortion)
Prior to joining PPFA, Mr. Evans was the managing attorney of MFY Legal Services in New York City, one of the two original legal services programs in the United States. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he received his B.A. from Emory University and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
Mr. Evans and his wife Nancy Biberman have two children and live in Pelham, New York. |
