Dr. Robin G. Cummings obtained his degree in Zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978. He subsequently attended Duke University School of Medicine, graduating in 1983. He was accepted into the surgical program at Duke Medical Center and completed an internship and residency in General Surgery and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery over the next nine years. During this time he participated in a two year research program as a National Research Service Award recipient, publishing a number of scientific peer-reviewed papers and book chapters in laboratory and clinical investigation. He presented his work at a number of national medical meetings. Dr. Cummings joined the Faculty at FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Moore Regional Hospital, in 1992 in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. He served on all major hospital Boards including Medical Executive, Surgical Executive, Board of Trustees, etc. and as Chair of the Cardiovascular Service Line. Dr. Cummings retired in 2003 but continues to serve on the Board of Trustees, Strategic Planning Committee, and as Chair of the Foundation, which has a 40 million dollar endowment. The Foundation is presently raising 25 million dollars to build a cardiovascular care center. Dr. Cummings is Board Certified in General Surgery as well as Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association. He is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society and completed the NCMS Leadership College in 2005. He serves on the NC HHS Committee to address Healthcare and Healthcare Disparities and the NC Indian Commission's Committee on Healthcare. Dr. Cummings has been involved with CoreVantage since its inception in 2000. Following his retirement from the active practice of Surgery, Dr. Cummings has focused on the growing need for technology in Medicine to provide continued quality patient care in a cost conscious fashion. He has consulted in the development and marketing of several patented and patent-pending medical systems and devices. |
