Work Experience
Roberto R. Denis joined Sierra Pacific Resources in August 2003. He has been affiliated with the utility industry for more than 35 years. Prior to joining Sierra, he was vice president of market and regulatory affairs for FPL Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Florida-based FPL Group, Inc, one of the nation's largest electric utility holding companies and leader in the production of renewable energy.
From the beginning of his career with FPL in 1972, Denis has held a number of key management positions in the areas of power systems development and operations; development, implementation and administration of wholesale energy interchange; transmission and purchased power arrangements; system planning; and load forecasting. More recently with FPL Energy, he was responsible for initiating and managing all state and federal regulatory strategies throughout the United States. During this tenure with FPLE he was elected Chairman of the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), the governing institution of New England’s fully competitive wholesale standard market. Denis held the position of NEPOOL Chairman for two years until he resigned to join Sierra Pacific Resources.
At Sierra Pacific Resources he is responsible for all aspects of energy supply for the Companies, including the reliable and efficient operation of the Companies’ owned generation; the procurement of all fuels and purchased power; and, the development and construction of energy projects. Most importantly, Denis is responsible for the companies’ renewable energy development, and procurement practices and policies.
Education
Roberto Denis holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, cum laude from Georgia Institute of Technology, a Nuclear Power Engineering Certificate from the University of Florida, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida.
