Robert van Tassell - Prior to his retirement in 1998, Mr. van Tassell was actively involved in the Canadian mining industry for 42 years; the last 16 of which was spent as Vice President of Exploration for Goldcorp Inc., formerly known as Dickenson Mines. Exploration teams led by him are credited with at least 3 significant discoveries: the Husky Mine which produced over 17 million ounces of silver, the Minto copper deposit and Goldcorp's High Grade Zone which is currently producing in excess of 500,000 ounces of gold per year at a grade of over 2.0 ounces per ton gold. He served for 11 years as a director of the Yukon Chamber of mines, two of them as President. He served four terms on the board of the Northern Resource Conferences, two of them as Chairman and he also taught introductory and advanced prospecting courses for the Chamber of Mines. From 1984 through 1993 Mr. van Tassell served as a board member of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), serving as Chairman of the Program and Environmental Committees. At the PDAC's annual conference in 2000, his many contributions to the geological community were honored when he was presented the coveted Special Achievement Award. Mr. van Tassell is a life member of the CIM, a member of the Association of Applied Geochemists and the Geological Association of Canada. |
