Robert Pedersen was named Vice President and Treasurer of the United States Postal Service in March 2002. In this role, he oversees all Postal Service financing and investments, bank relations, payment technologies, business evaluations and the collection and disbursement of more than $95 billion annually.
From March through July 2006, Pedersen served as acting chief financial officer and executive vice president of the Postal Service. In this role, he reported directly to the Postmaster General and headed the organization’s Finance, Treasury, Information Technology, and Supply Management functions. He served as a member of the Postal Service's Executive Committee and Chairman of its corporate Capital Investment Committee. He also served as acting vice president, Supply Management in February and March 2006.
Pedersen is an 18-year Postal Service veteran with an extensive background in financial management. He began his postal career as an investment officer managing a $3.5 billion portfolio of Treasury securities. He has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in finance, including debt portfolio manager, chief investment officer, and assistant treasurer, financing and cash management.
Pedersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Arts degree in economics from George Mason University, both located in Virginia. In addition, Pedersen holds a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation.
