Robert MacDonald has over 30 years of entrepreneurial business experience as President of five companies, including two that he took public, and as Partner in two venture capital firms.
Robert is the retired President and CEO of BiosGroup, Inc., a science-based consulting and software development company founded by Ernst & Young and Dr. Stuart Kauffman (a MacArthur Fellow and founding professor of the Santa Fe Institute). Under Robert’s leadership, BiosGroup raised $21 million of equity financing, achieved annual revenues of $13 million, filed 30 patents, and applied its technology to the formation of six spinout companies. In February of 2003, BiosGroup was acquired by Charlotte-based NuTech Solutions, Inc.
Previously, Robert MacDonald was President of four other venture-backed companies, including Lifeline Systems, Inc, a medical electronics firm that he took public in 1984, and Level 8 Systems, Inc., a messaging software company that he took public in 1995. He was also a General Partner at two national venture capital firms, Idanta Partners and Plant Resources Venture Funds, and has served on the Boards of Directors of more than 25 early stage companies.
