Dr. Robert E. Alvis teaches in the field of Church History. His courses include surveys of the ancient, medieval, and modern periods and more targeted studies of Christianity in America, Christianity in modern Central and Eastern Europe, global Christianity, Christian architecture, and Christian-Muslim relations. His research focuses on the interface of religion and evolving patterns of political organization, social identity, and cultural expression in modern East-Central Europe. His first book, Religion and the Rise of Nationalism: A Profile of an East-Central European City, was published by Syracuse University Press in 2005. Currently, he is working on a second book that will explore the issues of trauma, collective memory, and reconciliation among victims of ethnic cleansing in postwar Germany and Poland. He has published numerous articles, essays, and reviews in prominent scholarly journals including the American Historical Review, the Journal of Religion, and the Catholic Historical Review. |
